Gianluca Tempesti is a Reader in the Intelligent Systems of the Department of Electronics at the University of York (UK), where he leads the Digital and Computing Stream, as well as being co-director of the Master in Digital Systems Engineering.
His research activity focuses on adaptive and bio-inspired digital systems, with particular emphasis on reconfigurable and fault-tolerant hardware. He is co-leader in the “Resilience of applications and runtimes” workgroup of the IC1305 COST Action “Network for Sustainable Ultrascale Computing Systems (NESUS)”. He is currently Principal Investigator of the EPSRC-funded project “Continuous on-line adaptation in many-core systems”, in collaboration with the universities of Manchester and Southampton.
Dr. Tempesti is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Genetic Programming and Evolvable Machines (GPEM). He has published over 80 papers in journals and international conferences in his research domain, as well as several book chapters. He has participated to the organization of several conferences, including General Chair of the 9th International Conference on Evolvable Systems (ICES 2010), Technical Chair of the 2009 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC 2009), and Program Co-Chair of the 6th International Conference on Evolvable Systems (ICES 2005).
Before joining the University of York in 2006, he was Swiss National Fund Assistant Professor at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland. He is a member of the IEEE and has acted as project reviewer for the European Union, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council in the UK, and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft in Germany.
