Svetozar Margenov is a Full Professor of Scientific Computing at Institute of Information and Communication Technologies, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IICT-BAS), Sofia (Bulgaria). He is head of the department of Scientific Computing and currently (since 2010) is a director of the institute. He is also a coordinator of the Bulgarian Centre of Excellence on Supercomputing Applications.

His research topics of interest include parallel numerical methods for PDEs, parallel iterative solvers for large-scale sparse systems, and supercomputing applications in engineering and environmental problems.    Within the IC1305 COST Action “Network for Sustainable Ultrascale Computing Systems (NESUS)” he is co-leader of WP6 Applications. Recently, he has been involved in IC08054 COST Action “High Performance Computing on Complex Environment” as well as in several FP7 projects including PRACE (IP 1,2,3): Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe, and most recently AComIn: Advanced Computing for Innovation, FP7 Capacity.

Prof. Margenov is member of the editorial boards of the following international journals: Numerical Linear Algebra with Applications, Scalable Computing: Practice and Experience, and International Journal of Numerical Analysis and Modeling, Series B. He has more than 150 scientific publications in journals and international conferences, including the monograph: J. Kraus, S. Margenov, Robust Algebraic Multilevel Methods and Algorithms, De Gruyter, 2009. He has been editor of more than 10 books of proceedings, and guest editor for special issues of journals including Central European Journal of Mathematics, Journal of Computational and Applied Mathematics, Mathematica Balkanica. He is a co-founder and main organizer of the series of Large Scale Scientific Computing Conferences, biannually organized since 1997, see the whole history at http://parallel.bas.bg/Conferences/SciCom13/.  Having a permanent position at IICT-BAS, he is regularly teaching graduate courses at Sofia University.
